Greetings Cal Community. Like many other, I'm sure, I hit a stage in life that Breaking Out Another Thousand will not financially scuttle me and my family. So I turned to something I have always wanted to do and have taken up sailing. It was either that or buy a plane, but that's another story. Complete novice and found a 1970 Grampion 17 day sailer with which I have been out racing against local sailing association dinghies and building experience.

There is not a lot of used vessels up here in the cold, foggy North (about a 100 miles from S.E. Alaska tidewater) so I ended up buying a 1973 T/2 tall rig project boat, Serapion, complete with a "proper" trailer. Original plan being to sail our larger lakes for a few years before mooring in Alaska, but the tall rig makes annual stepping & unstepping a bit of a challenge. The history of Serapion is fairly murky, thinking it came from the Great Lakes originally, last registration was Alberta in the Canadian prairies; I suspect it has never seen salt water. Appears to be solid everywhere but does need refinishing inside and out. A fair bit of internet sleuthing has found very little info about T/2's although a half hour chat with Steve Seal provided some interesting perspectives on rigging (might as well chat with the expert while buying new gunwale rubber!!!!). Is there any other T/2 owners out there? No motor, no worries. Well versed in 12V & solar applications, so no issues. Mostly looking for correct rigging guides. Glad i found this forum!

I can't address your boat because my Cal is a wonderful Cal 20, but welcome aboard! Sailing offers endless opportunities for learning as well as a wealth of interesting experiences.

Welcome to the site.
It has been a long time since I've logged in, there is some really good info here.
If I remember correctly, Reggie was aT2 owner from Flathead Lake Mt. He bought a cruising CAL and was sailing it in Florida during the winter months.
I would like to lnow more about your sailing g area. I think there is someone with a Cal 34 up there too.

If there is a 34 in the area, I haven't come across it yet. We are landlocked in the Yukon, but we have several 20 - 40 mile long lakes that need to be explored. And we are near Skagway & Haines, Alaska, both ice free deep water ports. They are the head of the Lynn Canal, northern terminus of the south east Alaska panhandle. Lots of island and bays to explore there!!
