Aluminum spreader maintenance question

I was looking at my spreaders last weekend and noticed there's some pitting and corrosion on them. What is the norm for these? Are they hollow? Should I coat/treat them with something? I really don't need another thing to replace

Hi Mary!

I cannot speak to the corrosion question as I am in fresh water, but the spreaders for our 34 Mk III boats are hollow as I have had mine off for painting. BTY, Your boat looks great!!! The hard work is paying off!
